If most people used an ad blocker, how could survive the Internet?

First, I use an ad blocker (Adblock Plus with Firefox), and block all images, banner ads and pop-ups that I do not. But I thought, what if, say, Dell has decided combine all their computers with Firefox and Adblock, because it is so popular. How to free sites, most of which are dependent on advertising revenue, be able to face? Of course, some might go to a paid model, but we are so accustomed to a free Internet, would we be ready to transition? So, do you use an ad-blockers? Do you think a prescence ads annoying as mosquitoes, or are they a necessary evil to keep the current Internet execution? What about the risk of adware and spyware?
